Title: Theme for the 2008 KM-Collective CD
Post by: Moon on December 18, 2007, 05:57:55 PM
OK, you know what this is about, so let's get the ideas flowing...

At it's best, art will ideally make some sort of fundamental improvement in our world, and that's where I would like to see our next album go; the value of cultural diversity, universal human values, peace, and mutual respect.

Something of that nature, but with humour and optimism as essential ingredients.

Vague, I know, but well... ;)

Oren.

it seems a very good idea to have a theme, so we'll hear different sides and different interpretations of a proposal /idea. We'll have common ground to move on, and it sounds interesting to me.

ideas for the theme ? ummhhh...I'll think it over... ???
should be something innovative... in a way.

Unification

Following on from that.....
what better unification than an album of collabs, where each track is a joint effort between two artists from different countries or with different styles.....and maybe all on the same overview theme of peace and mutual respect?
Just a thought. (http://bestsmileys.com/thinking/4.gif)

Yes, I like this idea. But we still need a theme.

I like the idea for the theme "RESPECT". Respect for each other, for mother nature, for religions, for... It's a broad theme and with this theme you're making "a stand".

Yep, +1 !

I like the idea of Moon
Why not 'Respect you planet' or something simular...

Now, if we are talking about respecting the planet, one of the main problems of mother earth  at the moment is respect of nature & environment!
We could bring this message ?

But if we do this, we should be the first to do this and NOT release a hardware CD...

For the 'In a spin' CD, I exchanged a couple of ideas with Oren on music distribution and the future of it.
And I must admit that he has great ideas on this. We are at the moment  where music distribution is changing slowly from buying CD's to downloading music. Even I, who has a big collection of CD's allmost don't buy any CD's anymore...
Digital downloadable media is simply the future. And we do respect nature by doing this !

Now, I do think that it will be allmost impossible to sell a downloadable CD, we have a bit of experience with the downloadable version of In as spin.

So the question (in that case) is, is everybody willing to work on a free downloadable CD ?
I would think it would be a good idea. I doubt that we will get sponsors every year for a real CD, to much is to much and sponsors are solicited by every one nowadays. So, why not do the experience of a free downloadable CD.

We can be pioneers here...
What do you think ?

Yes, I like how the idea is evolving. I think in this way, we'll be sending out a very strong message. I can picture myself the cover of the virtual cd : a clear picture of our globe with the letters RESPECT over it. Great theme for the future KM-RESPECT website.

Also; the only costs besides everybodies time will be the webhosting and we do have sponsors for that. That will be Kara & myself  8)

This is a great idea: we are also not restricted to the physical 74 min limit, so we have room for everybody to join.

We will make it a free CD, make a great website, put a donation button on it so we can donate money to e.g. WWF

This could become a very beautifull project!!!  :;

Good idea, I like the respect the planet idea. It would be cool too if we could combine the tracks (or groups of the tracks) so they flow into each other.

Maybe contact the WWF and let them know our intention, and then let them have a copy of the final product..maybe they will have marketing ideas to promote their own cause, which will of course also promote our music and site.

The World Wrestling Federation?!? ???

Thousands of comedians out of work, and Marc's being funny... ::)

I'm thrilled with the direction this is taking. You guy's are warming a Canadian's little heart.
You know this project is going to put Kara-Moon in a strong position to influence the music world - we could conceivably become known as pioneers in digital music production and distribution.

I'm a happy hoser,

Oren.

It still amazes me how fast we can set the right pass at Kara-Moon. There's a lot of good vibe here presence that you don't found on any forum, and it's not comming from me (well ok... I try to do my share O0)

This will be a great project, so I hope many will join !

I like the idea of this project and I am sure it will be a succes. Letting people pay the amount of money they think the product (music) is worth AND the cause (WWF) can raise a lot of money for WWF.
So if anyone is short of some vocals or lyrics, just let me know. I'll do my best.

Mike

Good idea, we should get some teams formed! Anyone interested in working with me? I'd love to collaborate with a guitarist/bass player or someone who plays another not-keyboard instrument to complement my stuff.

Well, I do mostly keys, but if you're (really) hard-pressed for a guitar or bass I'd give it a shot.  I'm sure others are more qualified, but at least I'm willing!

(Geez, it sounds like the ugly girl at the dance, doesn't it?)  :-[

Looks like I'll have to stand aside on this one. I don't seem to have much success with collabs. Don't know if my style isn't very amenable to collaborations, or if I'm just not any good at working with other musicians ???

Also, I think the theme more-or-less requires vocals. I don't think you can easily convey the concept of respect with instrumentals.

Title: Re: Theme for the 2008 KM-Collective CD
Post by: rharv on January 05, 2008, 04:03:34 PM
I wouldn't count out instrumentals, but if you don't sing and need a vocalist, that sounds like a collab to me.  Many guys here that can sing.

Actually, on further thought,  if you put some nature sounds on something like SleepyHollow it could be a very environmentally friendly song..and a fit in my eyes anyway.  (whales, dolphins, water birds...)
Just thinking out loud...which usually gets me in trouble at home.

Will,

After missing out on the opportunity to collaborate with Marc, I will not let the opportunity to work with a genuine synth wizard pass me by again....(and a fellow Linux guy)
So, if you can relate, think of me as your all-purpose Swiss-Army-knife guitarist/vocalist/lyricist. I'll even work with Bob's whales, dolphins, and water birds if its absolutely necessary... :D

Michelle (mharv) and I are already knocking around some collaborative ideas, but I'll happily contribute to both projects if it gets "Doc Zyn" on the roster.

Oren.

I actually agree with Oren, the theme of the CD is perfect for instrumental music.
A lot of musicians produce music in relation with nature (which is part of the theme)
A litle example :

Just to get inspired :D

Thanks very much Oren and kara for your support.

Currently I have no ideas at all, but it is early days yet. Hopefully I'll have one of my 3am inspiration flashes - great when the come, but damn tiring ::).

Then again, if anyone else comes up with an idea they think I can fit into, I'd like to hear it.

I'm working with a  rough idea on a song for this theme: it's called "evolutions", it's still very premature but it might give people inspiration...

Nice sketch ! I can see a connection between the 'respect the planet' idea and world-music percussions in here.
It certainly can give inspiration, and it's useful to develop something on theme
