Title: Ubuntu Studio version 12.04 LTS(long term support)
Post by: Oren on May 16, 2012, 05:31:13 PM
For the first time in nearly 3 years, Ubuntu is offering their Studio operating system (both 32bit and 64bit) equipped with a low-latency kernel. The last version that was released with a low-latency(real time) kernel was 9.10.

This means that Ubuntu Studio can once again manage real-time audio. So, I've downloaded the system, burned it to disc, and installed it to a new hard drive.
Now it's time to test it to see how each feature performs... fun! ;D

Serious audio chores are still handled by Puredyne, but it is almost 3 years since its release, and many of the accessory features are a bit cro-magnon by today's standards.

Ubuntu Desktop version 12.04LTS is also released, and I'm trying that one on our multi-media computer - wish me luck -  :o -  :D

I'll be very interested to hear how you get on with these. Personally, I just don't seem to have the time to 'play' these days :(

Increased family interaction, I suspect...? If so, congratulations - it's far better for the soul than bits and bytes ;D

My first bout with Ubuntu Studio 12.04 was unrewarding - very glitchy performance. :(

So I left the operating system for a few months to allow Canonical to supply some update corrections. Last week, I installed from the DVD once again, then downloaded and installed all available updates. The result: rock solid.
All audio applications work flawlessly, and the low-latency kernel handles real-time audio like a champion.
...and Canonical supports this long-term-service version for a full three years... whoo! :-

Good to hear you're all sorted... and not a license restriction in sight :)
