I don't know if this is even punk at all,
but it ought to fly at KVR.    Grin

Wyatt,

This piece as a Ziggy Pop feel to it,which falls under the category of punk.

I'm guess that this is a bare bones rough draft...an idea you're toying with?
I mean to say that I can't make too much sense out of it as it is,since it sounds so thrown together. Also,a little too much distortion for my taste.

Aside from categorizing it,I don't really know what to make of it at this point. Undecided

A mix of different elements : electronic drums, distorted vocals and fuzzy guitars.
I was expecting it more aggressive, but this is certainly experimental and it fits the theme.
That's good. You jumped on the nu-punk wagon  Cheesy

What can I say?

It's crazy, incomprehensible and sounds like it was recorded in a tin shed on a 1960's twin track.

... sounds about right then Grin

I put a *lot* of vocal tracks in different relations to each other to achieve this pristine sound.
I figured punk must need to sound nasty, raspy, and rude..haha..whaddo I know?

Thanks LR. I have tried real hard to make pretty pieces for KVR and got nowhere. I figured
maybe I would do better with rude and crude.

Punk was a protest against the big-money corporate rock music machine. Production values were sketchy; rhythms and chord progressions simple.
It spawned the "lo-fi" approach to audio reproduction, and marked the beginnings of the "indie" record label phenomenon.

And yes, Iggy Pop was punk, long before "punk" was a musical style, and he's still doing his version of the genre.... Cool

Oren..

More cool stuff I didn't know about. That really figures it all out for me, and I appreciate your comments.

Dang..a few years listening to the wind and you're liable to miss a lot.  Roll Eyes

@everybody:

As often happens to me here, because of all of y'all's comments, I know I could do this a lot better if I were doing it over again.

Thank you.

Very interesting

I liked the backing tracks but I’d like a little less distortion on the vocals, but that is just me  Roll Eyes

Actually the more I think about it the more I’ve come to realize that the reason you only hear me do instrumentals is because my voice really does sound like this   Angry

This sounds like something we use to do “down at Joe’s garage” Cheesy
You Zappa fans know what I mean Wink

But I’ll accept it for what it is – good job

Thanks Mario for your comments.

The way I got this stellar vocal sound is by using a weird amp setting.
..trying to use a down and dirty method seemed like the way to go at
the time.  I recorded 5 tracks, and then lined them up a little askew.

I am thinking I would like to re-do the vocal track the way I would have
normally done it, by  starting with a clean track and then from there
process the living snot out of it.

I don't like it when I have to reach to understand the lyrics, and that is
exactly what I ended up with here.

UPDATE:

OK..due to all of your insightful comments, I spent this entire day re-doing these vocals.

My throat feels like I had 6 miles of bad road dragged through it, the drummer is now drooling equally out of both sides of his mouth,so at least we know the stage is level, and you can actually understand the singer now.

Cool

Yes, definitely an improvement, but as this is Punk I'm not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing Roll Eyes

P.S.
What does the band think about while on a gig?

Singer :
Hmm, reckon I could score with that cutie in the front row.

Lead Guitarist:
I bet I look soooo cool.

Keyboard Player:
Move a little to the right... now if I scrunch down a bit... come on girlie... Wahay black knickers.

Drummer :
Hope we haven't got cabbage for dinner tonight. I really hate cabbage.

Bass Player:
A A A D D D A A A D D, Er, A?

Wyatt,

Interesting you mention the drummer, because now that the vocal is "tres punk", and the guitar is right for the genre, some attention to the percussion will get you ... downtown.

Punk drummers generally love the snare and cymbals, hit a tom occasionally for effect, and don't have much to do with the kick drum other than one hit at the beginning of each bar. Map out a basic little drum groove in Hammerhead with these criteria in mind, and you'll have yourself quite a legitimate slice of punkdom.
