"Musical MIDI Accompaniment" is software developed by Bob van der Poel. You can find his home page at : MMA's home page

"Musical MIDI Accompaniment" is an accompaniment generator--it creates midi tracks for a soloist to perform over from a user supplied file containing chords and MMA directives.

MMA is very versatile and generates excellent tracks. It comes with an extensive user-extendable library with a variety of patterns for various popular rhythms, detailed user manuals, and several demo songs.

At Kara Music Production we are big fans of MMA and we are trying to give the developper some support. Therefore we have created a special section in our forum.

Feel free to send tips and remarks to kara (at) kara-moon (dot) com or post them here.

Hi all ... I just wanted to be almost-first on this new forum Smiley

Seriously, I do appreciate very much the work Kara has put into MMA over the last while. We're all getting a better product!

I hope to drop in here from time to time and help out users. But, no promises Smiley

In the meantime, have fun with your music. Have fun with MMA.

Best,

Bob van der Poel

Just a quick message (I'm not a long time user of MMA which I just discovered a week ago). I find it a great piece of software. I haven't yet started to create my own scripts, I'm just playing with the important songs archive Bob gives with MMA for now, but I can say that it's a great help to pratice instrument.
I plug my guitar into my PC and send it to Jack through Jack-rack and the PACS effects library (another must have !), play the midi output from MMA with Rosegarden, and play my guitar along it.

I will sure come back here when I have a litlle more experience with MMA.

BTW I made a build script for Archlinux. It can be found here : http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?do_Details=1&ID=6717

Hi all!

I'm a happy user of MMA and I want to give thanks to Bob for his software.

Three years ago I suspended a project that I was developing (Pymprovisator) when I found MMA.

MMA is great!

Hi MMA users

I'm using MMA since quite a while and I contributed a small piece of code for an improved voicing algorithm one or two years ago (??) and I wrote a converter script for Band in a box files (You can find the link on Bob's page). I'm glad to see that MMA improves continously - thank you Bob - and I hope this forum will help to expand the user community.

It would be nice to share style libraries and songs on this forum...although a forum is not the perfect fit for that purpose...but still...
What about starting a new topic for songs and one for libs? I could contribute >1000 auto-converted Band in a box songs for MMA which are not perfectly ready to use, but at least you have the chords

Hi Alain,

Welcome to our forum.
Yes I remember your site, especially the BIAB converter. What a shame you wrote this in Perl Wink
I'm a python user you see, but this is not the place for flame war Smiley
I've just created 2 sticky topics for uploading & sharing songs & grooves.

You said that a forum is not the best place to this, if you have a better idea just shoot, we have a lot of possibilities on this site... any ideas ?

Thanks for joining !

I've got an idea: What about a small database of styles, songs,etc... where users can upload and download? Uploads should only be restricted to members of course (not sure about downloads...). I could create some dedicated MMA-pages on the kara-moon site to make this happen.

Let's think about this. More ideas are welcome!  Shocked

That's exacltly what Bob & I ahve been talking about ! Would be THE ideal solution, but I didn't dare to ask.
It could be something simple and, like you said, a litle database that allow the users to upload & download.
It would only contain *.mma files (which can be songs or styles). So the user would only have to fill in : Name, type (song or style), comment (a bit of a description) and attach the file to it. Don't forget that *.mma files are only text files, so the size is realy small.
Is this a lot of work ? When could you do this ?

Kara

Something simple??? Sorry guys... I never do something simple  Grin

OK, let's get serious. I see a couple of possibilities:
I've got a module which can be integrated nicely in the kara-moon site, but I'm not happy with the current module because this module has some flaws. However, I'm in the middle of writing an upgraded web engine where a document management tool is one of the core components. This component won't be ready in the next weeks, but in the meantime you guys can already start collecting the mma files and make a sort of inventory in an xls file. This data together with the files can than be uploaded so we can immediately start with a nice library Wink

Let's do this ! I think we can make a lot of people happy with this  Roll Eyes

I'm completely behind this! The more styles and songs we get floating around the web ... the more interest ... the more users ... the more and better styles will be created.

This can and will benefit all of us. So, let's encourage kara and moon ... I'm sure there will be a few teething problems, but what else is new!
