Title: Traditional - update Post by: offthewall on March 09, 2017, 09:19:33 PM I recently posted this traditional Scottish tune as an instrumental version.
Just the other day I had an American singer ask if she could add vocals to it. I gave her the original 1820's lyrics and this is what she did. Not finished yet but thought you might like to hear a beautiful voice. Title: Re: Traditional - update Post by: bvdp on March 09, 2017, 11:39:05 PM Not my type of music, at all.
But, I really like this piece!!!! Yes, what a gorgeous voice. Love it. My only complaint would be that near the end, when the drums come in, there are some tuning issues? Also, when the drums first came in I thought there was a flaw in the recording, but I see now what's going on. Still ... with the beauty of the 1st 90% it bothers me. But, could just be me! Thanks for sharing. Title: Re: Traditional - update Post by: offthewall on March 10, 2017, 07:34:26 AM Thanks for listening Bob.
As always I appreciate any and all comments. Your are spot on with your observations and this is why I said 'not finished yet'. When I got the vocal parts in I cobbled the rest together to define the ultimate structure of the composition. I will be returning to the production of this to re-record some parts and give a full re-mix. Thanks again. Title: Re: Traditional - update Post by: folderol on March 10, 2017, 08:58:41 PM I enjoyed the original, but this is another dimension altogether. Stunning singing :;
I'm really not keen on the drum at all. I don't see how it fits Title: Re: Traditional - update Post by: offthewall on March 11, 2017, 07:51:01 AM Thanks.
Yes, that will be coming out on the final version. 'Twas an experiment. Title: Re: Traditional - update Post by: folderol on March 11, 2017, 06:08:05 PM Looking forward to developments :)
Title: Re: Traditional - update Post by: offthewall on March 11, 2017, 06:51:59 PM Just had some piano added (surprisingly nice) and made a few mix changes. Waiting for a final contribution then will wrap it up.
I'm busy working on a few trad Scots tunes. One of my latest interests since that darned 'flu messed up my (almost)singing voice! Title: Re: Traditional - update Post by: MarioD on March 12, 2017, 01:26:24 AM James this is one beautiful piece of music with a fantastic singer. She is really good.
FWIW I wouldn't change a whole lot. I'm glad that you are dropping the drums: I didn't see how they fit either. Plus I'm not sure that I would add any more instruments, maybe a stronger string bass, but that would be it. i love the simplicity you have going on here. Your expert instrument playing and her voice are a super combination, very clean and clear, i.e. if it ain't broken then don't fix it. Just tighten up the timing a tad. Just my two cents and YMMV. Title: Re: Traditional - update Post by: offthewall on March 23, 2017, 09:56:02 PM For those who may be interested here is the final version of this song.
Took out some of the 'experimental' elements, tweaked the bouzouki part and had a light piano section added by another friend. Title: Re: Traditional - update Post by: bvdp on March 24, 2017, 12:53:58 AM Hey, this is very, very nice!
I don't have time right now to listen to all of it (sorry, but 6+ minutes is a long song). But, I really do like it a lot. If I had the option to change anything I'd bring out the singer's voice a bit. Mind you, that would probably depend a lot of the listening equipment. And I won't even suggest substituting a saxophone for the recorder :- Thanks for sharing! Title: Re: Traditional - update Post by: MarioD on March 24, 2017, 08:04:42 PM Absolutely beautiful :;
