Title: KVR June entry
Post by: offthewall on June 11, 2007, 10:31:42 PM
The theme for the month, over there, is 'free-for-all'.  :(

I'm not happy, as I feel that the whole point of the contest is to rise to the challenge of the set theme. It is a philosophy of learning, where the theme can inspire and make possible an 'out of the box' attitude, to stretch and enhance the musical spectrum.
So many entrants, this month, seem to be using this theme as a 'showcase' to dredge up songs they have already created and which they feel are of their best.
I feel that this is like 'cheating'. If I took that attitude I would be inflicting my own opinion on everyone else.

So.....I've set myself a number of challenges!  ???
This piece has to be taken very much 'tongue in cheek', but I've learned a lot from the experience.  :o

Here we have, for your fun and enjoyment…..

The Free For All (No Whistle) Blues
by
The Off The Wall Jug Band.

Nice band you've created  8)

I agree with your opinion about the 'Free for all' thingy, the reason I don't participate this month.

No whistle ?  :-\

A very enjoyable track, and I like the dark vocals, in it.
This is a very original kind of music, not fashionable or trendy but true and fun to listen to.
I appreciate your use of real instruments.

Well, it's ok and I agree, I think that's true. I'll submit a very experimental thing and I don't care about the votes  ::)

Cheers

Thanks for the comments.
I meant what I said about needing a challenge from the contest. When there was no challenge this month I had to invent my own!
It's the first time I've had the courage to get my rusty old (non-singing) voice out of it's box.

Nice Track James...

I like the way this Acoustic Guitar is played!
Very appropriate collection of instruments in general.

Dig it ;)

After all that.......I was very surprised to attain a most respectable #8 out of 65 entries.  ;D

They must be all mad. ::)

James, a very nice song indeed. The style is very fresh and real. I don't know why you are surprised about the result though: you're music sounds very "real", "pure" and "modest" (in a positive way!). And seemingly, people appreciate that!

My advice: don't change your style!

P.S.: This would be a nice addition for "in a spin" (yes, I do like it that mush!  ;) )

I love the crazy way everything is just slightly out of tune. Reminds me of the "going to commercial" bits for prairie home companion.
