Title: Something rather different
Post by: folderol on July 31, 2014, 08:50:27 PM
Today, there was actually a breath of wind along with wall-to-wall sunshine, so I finally had a decent walk without a sweat bath! I went along a little travelled part of the North Downs Way, including a section between Farthing Common and the village of Postling.

Here I noticed a sound that once heard is never forgotten, so I got out my camera PDQ, the result being the first of these pictures. Yep, that is a privately owned, genuine WW2 Spitfire, still maintained (and I understand, with a continuous log record back to its wartime service). The second picture is of the grass airfield it calls home. That part of the NDW is the only place it is visible from, and it's almost impossible to find by road!

Grass runway, eh?  :o

I have a fondness for no-nonsense machinery, whether it be automobiles, firearms, farm equipment, sewing machines, outboard motors... you get the picture.  :D
That Spitfire qualifies, hands down. :-

Nice pictures :;

It would be super if you could crop the plane out of the picture and make it larger without getting a lot of pixelation.

That vintage plane is definitely a thing of beauty! 8)

I thought you guys would like it :)

@Mario
The photos were taken with max optical zoom on my camera, but are reasonably high resolution. If you download them and then zoom in on a viewer of your choice you'll find there is quite a lot of detail there - indeed you can clearly see the decals on the underside of the wings :)
