Mario,
If you don't mind, instead of the MP3,I would much prefer to work with your source tracks,so as to preserve the audio fidelity.
Thanks,
-Thom
No problem IF you are in no hurry. The weather is nice here now and I have a ton of outside yard work to do.

James, thanx for the very kind review.
The string sounds come from three sources, Digital Solid State Orchestra (a set of sounds I purchased for Kontakt), and from two old hardware synths a Roland String Emsemble M-SE1 and a Roland JV-880.
You can achieve similar results with the free ones if you layer three of the same track and slightly detune one track up and another track down a few cents while keeping the third track as is. Then add a concert hall reverb preset to the tracks. The concert hall reverb adds a lot of character to the sounds, even at low levels.
I hope this helps - MarioD

I got an email one day out of the blue. Wyatt had heard an mp3 from a 35 year old tape of my old band that we tried to salvage. He said, "I hope you don't mind...I took the liberty of cleaning this up for you. I'd like to do any more that you have, if it's okay". He did a wonderful job with what he had to work with.
I emailed back..."what would the cost be"? His reply? "Nothing. I just thought it should be done. I like your music". I was pleased & honored that he would offer & eventually do this.
I never knew he was sick. I hope he knows what I thought of him as a person. He was special to his wife, I'm sure. I hope someday she knows how special he was to many of us.
My prayers go out to her.
Mick

Our friend never stopped learning and developing his talents no matter how unwell he was.
So, in perfect health, the least I can do is attempt to recover my long forgotten guitar and harp skills. The tune fits my thoughts. He'd probably think it's awful, but would appreciate the effort!

Just to add a bit of fun, here is the pre-amp I used, knocked up out of bits in the cellar. It's even got a mic/guitar swittch P.S The wire didn't break off till just after I'd finished

Will, This is a very touching tribute and extremely well executed. An old friend of mine would have been VERY impressed with this. James

...sounds like Kevin playing along on that harmonica... (nice harpoon chops, Mr. Godfrey!)

Thank you everyone. I'm still a bit shaken by the way we lost Kevin, so was determined to give this my absolute best shot. Your comments have strengthened my resolve to go forward and not slip back to easier synth-only. On Wednesday I'll be going to a major music shop/warehouse looking for a new guitar.

It would have been his birthday today (or tomorrow, not sure if 8th or 9th) so I thought I would take the opportunity of digging this one out of the closet. I was reminded of it because of the KVR contest being 'percussion only' this month. I'm not submitting this over there but I want to share it with them anyway. This was for 'our' contest back in September 2008 when we were given a drum-loop to work with. Wyatt came up with these superb lyrics so we put it out as the Elderly Brothers. His wife, Louise, did the picture. Broken Drum. James
