Title: Caravan Post by: MarioD on January 27, 2008, 07:23:09 PM This is another oldie but goodie instrumental but it is not done as a cloned cover. I’ve changed the backing tracks so it is a little different.
I got the idea for the drum and lead tracks from an old Venture recording. The chords are from the original, I think, sheet music. The initial bass is me on my synth while the swing bass is from Band-in-a-box. The bass sound source is a SF2 as is the synth sound. The synth, lead and rhythm parts I’m playing. I’ll admit up front that the synth parts are very simple parts to play! I hope you like it. Title: Re: Caravan Post by: rharv on January 27, 2008, 07:44:04 PM Nice job Mario.
I know this was quite a discussion at the other place, but I am not at all familiar with the originals of this one. Sounds fine to me like you have it now. I like the way the guitar is done with the little grace notes, etc. Title: Re: Caravan Post by: folderol on January 27, 2008, 07:50:33 PM Well you've done a good job on this but I don't really like it.
The problem is I very much liked the copy I bought as a teenager (long since gone now), so of course, your arrangement (and any other) will always sound 'wrong'. I don't remeber who the artists were on the record I had, but I suspect there were quite a few different covers about the same time. Title: Re: Caravan Post by: Laguna Rising on January 27, 2008, 07:51:14 PM Great ! I love this feel
Guitars are fine (playing style & sound) Good mix, well done Mario Cheers Title: Re: Caravan Post by: MarioD on January 27, 2008, 08:10:36 PM Rharv, thanx for the kind words and for noticing the little guitar nuances. I’m still trying to get my chops back and I’ve been practicing the little things, mainly because my fingers don’t go that fast anymore.
Folderol, thanx for the kind words and for being so honest. I know what you mean, as there are a couple of original songs that I love that no one can do just too. If you ever think of the artist name please let me know, as I’d love to hear it. I really don’t know this song myself. A close friend asked me to do it in a Venture style. I listened to the Venture’s version and hated it so I can up with this version. L.R. thank you so much for the kind words. Title: Re: Caravan Post by: Mike on January 27, 2008, 08:13:39 PM Mario,
Told you before and I'll tell you again: great work!! Nice chops and cool backingtracks you laid out here. Keep 'em comming. Mike Title: Re: Caravan Post by: MarioD on January 27, 2008, 08:50:04 PM Thanx Mike I appreciate your kind words
Title: Re: Caravan Post by: offthewall on January 27, 2008, 10:36:48 PM ;D
Lovely stuff here. This takes me way back to the early 60's when all of us young lads were learning to play by copying these guitar groups. For us, over here, it was mainly The Shadows....but the style was the same. You've really got 'the sound' right on the nose. Well done. ;) James Title: Re: Caravan Post by: folderol on January 27, 2008, 10:54:28 PM ... now if someone can manage 'Orange Blossom Special' or 'Pony Express' the way The Spotinks did them I'd be a happy man indeed :D
<ahem> original (1963?) versions before they bottled it and slowed them down ;) Title: Re: Caravan Post by: MarioD on January 27, 2008, 11:14:49 PM Thanx James
I’ve never heard of The Shadows until recently. Apparently they were the UK’s version of the Ventures, or at least they played the same style. I’m glad you liked it. Title: Re: Caravan Post by: Fred S on January 28, 2008, 12:54:39 AM Very 8)
Fun listen, and well done!! Title: Re: Caravan Post by: MarioD on January 28, 2008, 01:18:27 AM Thanx Fred
Title: Re: Caravan Post by: Oren on January 28, 2008, 01:22:45 PM Mario,
Your most ambitious project yet, from the sound of things. Synthetic instruments and guitar deployed most artfully. Oren. Title: Re: Caravan Post by: MarioD on January 28, 2008, 02:27:55 PM Thanx Oren,
I'm s-l-o-w-l-y getting there. Title: Re: Caravan Post by: Mick Emery on February 05, 2008, 10:50:34 PM One of the first tunes I learned.
We marched up Broad St., in Philly, on New Year's day. (Garden State String Band) You did a nice job on this. Mick (Bb's are not an option!) Title: Re: Caravan Post by: MarioD on February 05, 2008, 11:38:24 PM Thanx Mick
Someone's been on the PG Music Forum ;D Title: Re: Caravan Post by: Wyatt on March 13, 2008, 09:23:24 PM Mario,
Another great tune. You know, besides the beautiful guitar work, which I can never get too much of, I really appreciate your choice of songs. Hats off to you for playing so many songs that bring back so many memories. You've got me coming here to the PG section, and I don't even BIAB! ;) Wyatt Title: Re: Caravan Post by: MarioD on March 13, 2008, 09:37:46 PM WOW, thanx Wyatt for the extremely kind words!
