Title: Feb KVR
Post by: offthewall on February 14, 2012, 06:38:51 PM
:-X I'm having a terrible time trying to get some studio work done, or even going through stuff here ... too much happening in 'real life'.  ::)

Anyway ... KVR theme is "submit an entry expressing happiness" so here is my shot. Hoping to have a video to go with it in a couple of days.  8)

Strange … on the day that the theme was announced I was in a store where they were playing background music. As I was browsing they played a couple of old country songs from the Carter Family and I observed that everyone in the store had a change in attitude. There seemed to be an instant uplift. Amazed at how it cheered everyone I realised that this should be my style for this theme.

You ask me what it takes to make me happy
After all the years that I done done
Well, I can tell you what’s just happened to my great surprise
I been given me my first grandson.

When life is slipping by
And it makes you want to cry
The thing that makes you happy
Is your kin.

The older that I get, and the wiser,
Has made me realise certain things
Those lonely people out there should try to understand
The happiness that family brings

When life is slipping by
And it makes you want to cry
The thing that makes you happy
Is your kin.

I used to be a guy who was a loner
Spending plenty of my youth on the skids
But thankfully I’ve learned some things just going through this life
Now I’m gonna have some fun with my grandkids

When life is slipping by
And it makes you want to cry
The thing that makes you happy
Is your kin.

Vintage VFM200 mandolin,

15 bar autoharp.

Sounds like the family band!  :- ...  :D
A sweet little song, meaningful lyrics, and some artful production (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-signs107.gif) (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php)

Thanks for the comments, Mr Fisher  :D

After my last attempt at a video, recently, my daughter made the observation that, when listing the instruments used for the song this gives the viewer that extra insight as to what each instrument is and what sound each contributes to the mix.  8)

So ... here is the video to this song.

Thanks for looking, Mario.

Is just what I hoped to hear.
The essence of that sound, in my opinion, can only be properly achieved with the right instrumentation.
Thanks especially for that comment.   :-*

The question that must be asked...
Why does the singer have a different hat to the rest of the band? ;)

Nice work James. I can see that grandson is doing you good ;D
