I must have been completely out of my mind to even attempt such a difficult task,but this is one the Bee Gee's best songs,as it beautifully incorporates baritone/tenor and falsetto.

Growing up,a lot of pressure was put upon us kids to reject disco,as it wasn't considered "cool" and you were labeled a "f*g" if you admitted to liking this genre.So as a kid,I secretly loved disco....but of course,it wasn't until I was an adult,that I really appreciated the sentiment behind this tune.

I was 8 years old when this song came out in 1977 and since most of you are older,I was wondering what you all were doing at that time and what this song meant to you(if anything at all)....if you care to share your thoughts on it. Love this song.  I guess I was never part of the "it" crowd, because I liked, and continue to like, almost all musical genres.  The Bee Gees get a bad rap.  They are actually very accomplished, and wrote some very good songs.  And it was a shame that they were being hated simply for the music they enjoyed making.  They weren't out to anger people, they weren't a product of corporate manufacture (like much of today's "stars" are).  They simply liked making that kind of music, and they were good at it.  Just bad timing, I s'pose.  I myself am a crazy ABBA freak, and I'm not ashamed of it.  I wish I had a 1000th of the natural talent Bjorn and Benny have.

Anyway, I thought you did a great job on this.

I think the Bee Gees decline in popularity fell victim to the end of the disco era,which was the early 80's....but then,blues music lost some momentum due to the disco era.I never really understood why a certain genre is "the in thing" in one decade and then extinct in the following decade.

Incidentally,Steven Speilberg announced in 2010...that he was going to make a film on the Bee Gees(haven't read of any developments on it,as of yet).

Well you certainly pulled all the stops out for this one! Those harmonies are spot on! Nice clean arrangement and production too.

I always like the BeeGees (along with many other groups there weren't supposedly cool) so I know this one fairly well. You can be proud of what you've done here.

When I saw the song title I thought to myself “how in hell is he going to cover this”!  Well to my surprise the answer is fantastic!  You did one hell of a job on this one.  Your vocal range and tone just astonishes me! 

Let’s see 1977.  Well I was married for 10 years, my wife gave birth to our second son, we had a mortgage but were building a new home and I was in a wedding band. To me this was just a new song to play at weddings. I was a jazz and blues fan back then but I thought the earlier BeeGee’s stuff was a lot better than their disco stuff. However I did like some of the disco music such as Gloria Gaynor, Rick James, Donna Summer etc.

Apart from the stellar work you have put in to this vocal arrangement I got to say that I am always impressed by the way that you do covers, Thom.
Don't know if you work out all the parts by ear, or if you use crib sheets, but you always get the sound spot on.
This is another 'one of those'.
Quite spectacular, my friend.

As for 1977, and the BG's, ....
well; I had been married in 75 and gave up making music in public then. I had been, for quite a few years, in blues bands and clubs with duos followed by a couple of years with a folk group so I was totally into those genres.
I did, however like most at the time, go to clubs and discos and had a closet admiration for the likes of the BG's and ABBA, not so much for WHAT they produced but for HOW they did it. They were such powerful songwriting forces. This is why their music has stood the test of time.

Not being a particular fan of covers, from my own point of view of what I like to make, I have to say ... keep it up, maestro. You are absolutely first class at it.   :;

The C&W group I had been in broke up a couple of years or so before that and I'd sold my guitar (regretted it ever since). I'd given up doing anything musically and was concentrating on work and electronics studies. With the loss of the band and fading contacts, my social life took a bit of a dive for a while too.

I never had the interest,patience or discipline to learn sheet music & no,I do not even use tablature.I've always had the natural ability to focus my ears on each note of each track in a song accurately(within reason).
I have my limitations-but more often than not,my interpretations are more accurate than a lot of the sheet music that's out there(because I've heard many folks play music from sheet music that was incorrect in some segments and I could always hear the mistakes clearly.

I of course,would not be able to break down an intricate piece of classical music accurately,but most of what I like to cover..I can successfully  make a rendition of.
I do think reading sheet music would be useful-if say,I was in a cover band...or if I wanted to make karaoke albums for a living and I have to admit,that there are times when I wish I did read music,because learning an entire song can really be tedious & time consuming sometimes.

Regretting taking a hiatus from music is not such a bad thing,because you can always get back into it without too much bother and how can one regret making a solid career by focusing on a stable work-related pursuit?

I never really did sort myself out career-wise,because I never could determine what I really wanted as a career...as I was so utterly lost & I never found myself.
