Title: Finally, getting serious about soldering...
Post by: Oren on June 29, 2013, 06:42:40 PM
Been servicing my own music equipment for many years, but only recently decided to treat myself to a professional-grade soldering station. Absolutely KILLER!

(mine is the digital version of the model shown in this video)

I can't imagine how I used to work with conventional irons anymore. I went 'digital' about 10 years ago, and was analog temperture controlled for a good few years before that.

P.S.
With modern coated iron bits, you're best off not cleaning them with a damp sponge, but instead using the little blocks of cleaning compound like this (http://uk.farnell.com/edsyn/gek-10/cleaner-solder-tip-60g/dp/2100014)
It might look expensive but lasts for a very long time, and will clean almost anything off the iron.

Thanks for the recommendation Will! 8)
The tip supplied with this iron is stainless steel. I'll check and see if that cleaner is right for stainless, and get some forthwith...
