Title: X-Mas Collaboration
Post by: elwoodblues1969 on December 15, 2007, 04:22:06 PM
Since Moon brought up a fantastic idea to do a re-make of the "Do They Know It's Christmas?" which would involve all the forum members that are interested,I thought that I should post Moon's idea here as well,as I want to get everyone's attention on this quickly,so this project can get under way soon,as I have alot of work ahead of me to get the ball rolling.

It's also going to be very time consuming to get everyone's vocal contributions together and I was hoping to get this done before Christmas,if at all possible.

Bob Geldof arranged & recorded the original in 24 hours,so hopefully we can get this done in a week! ;D

So then...any takers besides Moon? :)

Ok-great! I'll get started on the music,as I have to go back & tighten up the song and make certain that everything's balanced.
I hope to have all the music done by tomorrow evening & I will post it up here around that time tomorrow.

Here's my plan for the layout of the vocal tracks....

Since the first two lines of the song are easily managable for me vocally,I will start it off;

"It's Christmas time,there's no need to be afraid
At Christmas time,we let in light & we banish shade"

As for the next two lines,I will leave it up to you guys to decide who does these lines;

"And in our world of plenty,we can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world at Christmas time"

The next group of lines consist of 6 lines-the first 3 lines are still solo vocals & the next two lines are made up of two-part harmonies & the last line is a solo.I'll sing the lower part harmonies and whomever would like to do the higher parts,will do those;

(solo)"But say a prayer,pray for the other ones
At Christmas time,it's hard,but when your having fun
There's no world outside your window
(harmony)"And it's a world of dreaded fear
Where the only water flowing,is the bitter sting of tears
(solo)And the Christmas bells that ring there,are the clanging chimes of doom"

(---)"Well tonight thank God it's them,instead of you"

(harmony)"And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmas time
The greatest gift they'll get this year is life"

(harmony)"Where nothing ever grows
No rain or rivers flow"

(harmony)"Do they know it's Christmas time at all?"

(solo)"Here's to you
Raise your glass for everyone
Here's to them
Underneath that burning sun"

(harmony)"Do they know it's Christmas time at all?"

The rest of the song's lines will require as many people as we can get,to sing this last portion of the song.

Kara,& anyone that does not feel comfortable doing solo vocals,can just wait until this last segment of the song, to chime in.

The line; "Feed the world" is a two part harmony,where several people sing each,the lower & higher part harmonies and the line; "Let them know it's Christmas time and",is just a single melody,that will be sung by everyone.

Great idea! I'm told I do a great impression of someone who can't sing :D but I'd love to give it a try, just tell me what lines you want and I'll record it - you be the judge of if you can use it! ;D

You can count me in. I could do some background vocals if you want me to as well.

Here is a YouTube video of the song as a reference,so everyone here knows exactly what all the vocal melodies sound like! ;D

Marc,

If you could come in where the lines begin with "Feed the world" and just continue throughout to the end of the song,that would be great...

Thanks,

Thom

Martin,

If you could do all of the higher,2nd part harmonies from where it begins and throughout the entire song,that would be fantastic,as I really need at least one person who can hit the higher notes well.

Thanks,

Thom

O boy, am I in trouble... I CAN'T SING AT ALL !!!  :-X

I've even tested it with my small BOSS Micro recorder, but I really don't think that a pitch correcting software can help in my case...

Moon,

Don't worry about your singing ability my good man,as I am no George Michael either. ;D

Just put forth your heart & soul into it,as that's all that I ask...that's what this project is all about...heart & soul,rather than singing prowess.

If you want,just chime in at the last part of the song,as the ending part of the song needs as many voices as possible. :)

Well, I have a lot of heart and soul, but I really don't know if that's enough to compensate my terrible voice  ;D

Just tell me where to send my recording to...
