Title: Autobahn
Post by: elwoodblues1969 on April 19, 2008, 12:42:37 AM
In the spirit of coffee, incredibly potent energy drinks & waking up,I give you-this piece. >:D
I had a energy drink made by a company called "Freek"-the name of this particular flavor & blend is called "Skitzo" and here is the result of this drink....

This is very well done, but is too far an aggressive/percussive style for my personal tastes.

A great track, at moments it really gets that Kraftwerk-y vibe. It does feel a bit like it's missing some good hooks though. Kraftwerk always has these nice, short melodic snippets throughout a track, maybe one or two of these would be cool to hear. But it's a nice track as it is with lots of cool sounds.

Oren,

It's a matter of conditioning, when you have the tolerance for caffiene as I do,this energy drink is just a good,middle-of-the-road buzz. :-

Thanks for your compliments. :)

Wyatt,

This piece just sort of fell together rather quickly & it seemed to work as it was,so I am very pleased you like it as much as you do. :-

Thanks for your kind words. 8)

Marc,

I'm familiar with the name Kraftwerk, but I'm not sure if I've ever heard them...perhaps I have without knowing them by name-in any event,I'll take the reference as a compliment. ;)

With regard to my piece being what it is..well...after a brief period of deliberation,I felt that certain segments in the song should be minimal,in order to showcase the bass line & it's progression into morphing in character.

I was also afraid that if I added more,it would be over-produced,which may cause the piece to deviate from the theme a bit.
This of course was all decided in a short period of time,so who knows, maybe I will come out with an alternate version of this piece at some point.

Thanks for your input & compliments. 8)

Andreas

Andreas,

At some point,I too,had thought there was distortion & I had even considered doing the song over again, but I think it's borderline,as it's teetering on the precipice of being distorted.

Ultimately I am not sure if the levels should be a bit lower,as for myself,I have monitors that have very clean amps & good engineering & maybe it's the high tolerances of my monitors is why I don't hear any distortion?

However though, one of the themes of this song, was to push the envelope as much as possible and take everything to the limit for impact for the optimal effect & I guess that I may have over-stepped the boundries a bit,I'm not sure. :-\

Very glad you like my song though-thanks! 8)

Will & Kara,

Interesting videos in terms of when all of this took place,as I was 6 years old in '75. ;D
They were certainly pioneers in thier style & method of music, but 9 minutes of that Autobahn song at that tempo is awful! :P

The melodies are nice, but I don't get the feeling of the Autobahn at all from these guys...no relation at all to what must be the most exhilarating experience of driving at high speeds in a mountain range,in such beautiful surroundings.

Thanks for sharing this though,as I had never crossed paths with this band & it's always cool to see where electronic music was spawned from. 8)

Kraftwerk was indeed part of the pioneers of the early synth music. I even got some vinyl records from them... yes those were part of my early vinyl collection : anybody remembering "We are the robots... ti titit tie.... we are the robots...." or "She's a model and she's looking good...".
O yes, indeed great stuff. I also remember another song of another record, calles 'Ohm sweet Ohm....'

I must install my old record player again and make some Kraftwork samples !

I never got that vocoder of the G2X sound that good. At least now I know that it isn't a problem of the vocoder, it's a lack of knowledge on my side...

I miss the old days of early electronic music. Does anyone remember the work of Kraftwerk before they got famous? I still got an old record here (you know, the vinyl thing), with the song 'radioactivity'. The music is perhaps old, but their message is still up to date. Check this one :

Good find!
There aren't many groups that maintain their integrity over such a long period of time.
