Title: Pedal thingamminy Post by: bullshark on January 13, 2007, 07:49:55 PM Hi there,
Trying my hand at writing something using the "pedal point concept". Thing is, I'm not even sure what I did write qualify. So, here's the intro: http://www.s94641883.onlinehome.us/pedal_point.mp3 (740 KB) so, would that be pedal point or am I missing something? Title: Re: Pedal thingamminy Post by: kara on January 13, 2007, 09:29:15 PM Yes the intro is a pedal note ! Now why don't you do the same with the bass (after the intro) and you have the perfect solution

An old bass player I know told me that good bass isn't in the notes, it's in the rythm Listen to my entry, do you think it is boring ? Difficult to do this for a whole verse without getting boring as hell, but I'll try. Thank you for your help kara. Title: Re: Pedal thingamminy Post by: bullshark on January 14, 2007, 05:49:58 PM Yeah, I know, I play bass. James Jamerson was a master on laying down a soulfull and groovy bassline on a single notes (not all he did, of course not), but I'm no Jamerson ;)
I didn't listen to any entries so far, I prefer to wait until my own is finished, otherwise I'll never finish it. I'm pretty much done writing, now on to arranging, choosing sound (hopefully finding something better than the GM soundfont I used for the snippet), mixing... I don't know how others do it month after month, I usually take 3-4 months to write one piece, this race-against-the-clock thing is...difficult. But the kvr contest is just for fun, so I take my first idea, record it, put it together and that's it. |
