Title: On Wings
Post by: bvdp on August 06, 2009, 02:25:00 AM
On Wings is a song I wrote awhile ago ... it's intended to be somewhat interpretive. I wrote it after watching an osprey (like an eagle if you don't know) fishing at a local lake.

I played the tune in front of about 200 other musicians a few weeks ago at the International Music Camp. By apology, the group I put together managed about 15 minutes together to practice ... so I suppose that justifies the out-of-time start :)

Anyway, it's here on my band-camp site:  http://mellowood.ca/music/imc/2009.html  (near the bottom).

Be kind :)

Well that's not bad at all for just a 15 minutes practise, I know how hard that is.
it's starts of a bit scary but it all falls together, cool performance  :D

We can hear that you have fun here

BTW that recording is actually pretty good

Not to be a shill for Zoom and the H4 ... but, I am amazed every time I use this unit by the the quality of the recordings! Best $350.00 I ever spent on audio stuff!

This so reminds me of school band practice sessions where everything slowly coalesces into a respectable performance - only we took a lot more than one 15 minute session. ::)
Nice one.

Nice one.

It turned out that I was not welcome in our highschool band (a happy fact, in that I then migrated to guitar and alternative music like Mahavishnu Orchestra  :-), but the brief time I spent with that crew left a profound respect for those who can organize an ensemble and actually make it sound coherent.
Good one Bob! Life is all about shaky beginnings... O0

Sort of off-topic ... but one thing I have learned about ensemble playing is that there is a huge difference between bad, so-so, and good conductors. Of course, in this little pick-up group we had no conductor (damn, would have been much easier!). I've played in bands with different conductors, playing similar music with mostly the same people. Difference is more than dramatic. I suppose that is why the guys conducting the major symphonies get paid very well indeed.

Unless you know your music very well AND are a very good musician, playing complicated music is very hard to do without a conductor.
