Kara-Moon Forum

Dear all,

As some of you know, KM has been around for a while and the time to upgrade our aging webserver has arrived.

The KM domain will normally be migrated in the upcomming 2 weeks. We'll keep the downtime limited to a minimum.

I'll post more details in the upcomming days when the forum and site will be unavailabe.

In any case: don't panic if we dissapear, we are here to stay and the new server will give us a happy and everlasting life  ;)

Thanks for the warning. I'll keep my eyes open for updates.

I'm currnetly arranging the migration of the server with our hosting partner. We're still trying to find out if we can retain our current IP addresses; in this case, we would only have an interruption of about 1 hour.

The migration itself should go through next week. (Server has been ordered and paid for, we're waiting for it's activation).

Are you doing a site redesign as well as a server migration?  If so, if you need any graphics / banners etcs I would be only too happy to help.  I used to be a graphic designer so have a wealth of tools at my disposal.

Also, as this site obviously costs you money to run, do you have a donation system?  I don't have much, but would like to contribute what I can as this is a great site, and in the short time I have been made a member, I have been made very welcome, and would like to show my appreciate by donating.

At the moment we are concentrating on the migration of all sites hosted on our server. We are only hosting free sites on our server but some of them are pretty important for the users, so we don't want to screw up.
There could be a redesign of the main site (www.kara-moon.com)in the future...
To answer your other question, we don't like to ask money to people, but yes we have a donation page on the site : http://www.kara-moon.com/index.php?modid=mod01&l_submenu_id=m001_01_05   ;)

Small update: there is a slight deley in the activation of the server. Our hoster is waiting for the delivery of a new serie of servers...

We're getting there !

The new server has been installed and we'll start the migration very soon now.

I'll lock the forum so we won't loose any posts. This means the forum will be closed for a day or 2, the time DNS needs to redirect.

I hope to have fixed everything by next weekend.

O boy, have I been living in very excited times...

You probably will have noticed that KM had dissapeared and that it took some time to be back.

Let me explain what happened: our hoster tried to migrate the server. Normally this would not make the current site unavailable, but it did: they tried to create the migration files on the old server. Since those disks were more than 50% full, the disks were written 99.99% full, making the old server inoperable  :-[

Luckely, the did manage to migrate the KM domain... but .... without the forum...  :-\

My haert stopped beating for a while... just imagine that all those posts were lost  :-[

Luckely, we once created the backup mechanisme, so I did have a backup of the forum content. After loading this up and trying to restore the forum's database, we were back alive  :;

I'm glad I could solve this and I hope to greet you back  :;

I hope you can forgive me you had to miss KM a bit longer than planned.

But hey: we're on a brand new powerfull and ecological server !!!

Been so quiet on the old interwebs with out KM, damn glad it's back.

Congrats on getting it all sorted Moon, I can only guess how much of a headache it's been.

Of course, if you'd been using Windows, and not some freebie OS with a silly name.............

I must admit, I'm not really a fan of the forum opening in a popup, personally I like it in the same window I'm already using.

Is it just me, or is there no scroll bar on the side when the forum opens?  Being unable to use my mouse wheel to scroll down to the bottom of the page means I'm missing 1/2 the page :(

Ive cleared my cache etc but to no avail.

Also when I try to reset my password on the profile page  - the captcha is blank, so I can't change my password.

The scrollbar is there now.

And yes, there was a problem with the captcha. That is has been solved earlier today, but you need to restart your PC to get the new captcha (or clear the cash :P ) The captcha is generated with your session ID, so you need a new one.

Let me know if it works after rebooting...

OK... I think I've nailed this one : James, can you check it again. You don't have to restart your PC, just close the tab or window where kara-moon.com is displaying and try to log on again and change your password...

It's mostly looking good, at last ..... thank you for all your hard work.

I managed to log in, after shutting down and returning later, changed my password to one of my own choice and altered some text in my profile.
The very strange thing is that .....
the first words in my profile are:
I\'m James, usually known as OffTheWall

I have tried a number of times to delete the \ from the first word, but it will not go away. Each time it actually gets deleted in the text box but when the page updates the darn thing is back again  ::)
I know it is a very minor point ..... but can you think of a reason why it is happening?  :-[

Hello and congratulations on the migration.
I have been unable to access the forum until today as it appearers that the URL has changed? I had no problem accessing the forum today at "www.kara-moon.com/forum" Yeah! Since the migration I had been attempting to access the site by going to "www.kara-moon.com" and then selecting "Forum" then "General" from the drop down. This directs to the url"http://www.kara-moon.com/index.php?modid=mod06&l_submenu_id=m001_06_01"
The shortcut I had saved to acces the forum in the past was"http://www.kara-moon.com/index.php?modid=mod06&l_submenu_id=m001_06_01"
During this period I attempted to access my artist page and was unable to log in there also. I suspect that these are related?
Anyway thought you should know.

I'm still finetuning some small issues, but right now it looks like all basic functionalities are there.

Mostly wanted to mention that I feel kind of foolish as it seems I was the only one who had this problem.
Everything else seems fine. As always thanks for your time and efforts in keeping this together and giving us lost souls a place to congregate.

Wasn't just you MRT, I have only been able to get the site up over the past 2 or 3 days.  Looks like everything is running fine now though ;)

I'd like to echo MRTs appreciation for Kara and Moon.  Ce site Web est très fantastique.  ;D

Now don't you ever do this to us again, deprive us of our favourite website, or I may be forced to release my specially trained Ninja Bunnies!!!   >:D

With the new server we would be fine for the next 4 years ! And also, we have proven to be bullet proofed. In case they drop a bomb on the data center where the server is located, we are able to restore the complete site in a couple of days !  8)

In case any of you tried to access my personal site, http://www.mellowood.ca during the server changeover ... if you couldn't get there it was Moon's fault :) Well, not really ... but it was down for a day or so while the new IP address got propagated around the world. I think it's all just fine now.

And a public thanks to Moon for making this as painless as possible!

Something I've noticed is how well everyone seems to get on here. One of the things that (many years ago) rather put me off group work is how prickly some musicians can get. I guess it may also have something to do with the fact that we've all reached a point where we are reasonably comfortable (or at leat accepting) of our abilities, whereas way back then I was a teenager amongst mostly other teenagers ::)

Got in this morning with Firefox after allowing popups

IE8 still blocking access even with the popup exception allowed for kara-moon.

It starts to show page then gives a general page not found error.
Still doing it in IE8 while I am here with Firefox

If I copy the URL from this thread into IE8 it allows me in
However, coming through the 'entry' door I get rejected.

One of those weird IE8 things ..
and yes I tried it with popup blocker turned off,  as well as turned on (with an exception to allow kara-moon)

I've tried tweaking a few things and IE8 still does not allow me through the front door.
Earlier version of IE will, and Firefox is fine,  but I just can't seem to get IE8 to walk through the door!
I can see the main site (Kara-Moon.com)  but it won't load the forum up...
I can click the Artists link OK.  It's just the forum apparently...
Even trying to get in through the Auditorium link generates the "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" message.
