Title: Love and Understanding: some kind of ballad?
Post by: Frederik on May 17, 2007, 08:41:59 PM
Hi everyone,

this is a new track I've been working on recently...
It may be that I add another part later on, but I wanted to hear your opninion on it so far...
Does this combination of piano, bass, electronic drums, some strange string instrument (soundfont) and orchestra work in a way?

all your thoughts are appreciated!

bye,

frederik

Yes, the piano catched my attention from the first messures.
After that I had a litle problem with the drum section, didn't fit the feeling I had of the song.
All other instrumentation and composition fits well.

The piano sounds very good, frederik!

The drums could use a little better break/programming in the sections around 1:15 and 2:15.....they pick up right away and the music is still transitioning.  Also, overall, the sound is just a tad full.

All personal opinion though, frederik. But, you asked for it  ;D

Thanks for taking the time to reply, Kara and Fred

Very usefull suggestions from both of you - those are the kind of things I need  ;)

simple conclusion is that the drums need to be reworked/replaced!

I think that the piano and flutes, strings, and such are absolutely stunning!  However, the drums, I didn't have as much a problem with.  Other than sounding a tad lo-fi-ish, they really didn't sound that bad to me, personally.

It's a tad short, but it's a wonderful and happy tune with great symphonic drive and rythmic finesse.

Hi Frederik
I enjoyed the melodies in this track and I agree the arrangement works.
The combination of sounds is fine by me.
I agree there's something wrong in the drums but imho is mainly a problem of sound, it lacks punch, low-freq, and sounds fake and cheap.
This track is really enjoyable and it deserves a better beat

Cheers

Great piano playing. I don't really like the drums in this one. Doesn't seem to fit the piece apart from the very boomy kick. As I suggested with your other song this might need some eq too.

I agree with the general concensus that it's a great composition with excellent piano playing, but the drums seem to intrude to my ears and make the whole track sound a bit like James Last in parts.

thanks Northern Fist, Laguna, Martin and Blipp for your replies!

Well, consensus is growing that my drums in this track are bad, whether or not it is a sound or a rhythm issue, or both.
And, because - according to blipp - they make the piece sound a bit like James Last I should kick them out asap  ;D

Thanks again for helping me out on this one,

bye,

frederik
