We need a name for the CD. What about:


The title is saying what the CD is about: undisovered talent!

I had a rough idea of:

Kara-Moon Collective....in a spin

with a graphic theme of a whirlpool effect with the title running round the spiral.

A couple of very good ideas here !
I've discussed this with Moon and we have come up with a compromise which should make everybody happy.

- The CD will be available as a download with the CD cover as a pdf file. Oren made some good arguments about environmental issues and the Miss Kara jumped right on board to confirm that at least one person here is thinking about those things (Thanks Oren  ;D )
- Since the sponsoring of the project has taken a lift off, the CD will also be produced as a real CD. Our sponsors will there logo on the back of the CD and can use it as relation gifts. If you want sponsors , you have to give something back  :D

The compromise we made, and the extensive lobbying of Moon for sponsors, is a whole change of the project.
- No participating costs for artist anymore  8)
- No upfront money  8)
- The free download will spread the CD all over the world  8)
- The real CD will spread the music in a more traditional circuit  8)

Should make everybody happy now.
Now you just have to participate to this  ;D

Well, almost everything: anything but copy protected material. So make sure you only use copyfree material ! We don't want law suites  :)

The idea is to make this CD as good as possible, so you only have to respect legal restrictions.

I had a hard time reading the 'in a spin' part of the title without turning my laptop upside down  :-[  ;D and I think that's more important then the 'Kara-Moon' part

I realy like the name Kara-Moon Collective: after all this will become a collective piece of art. I'm not sure if this name is less important though.  ;)

Just an idea: the CD will be a collection of very different styles: perhaps we can use more different colors that are spinning to the central point, visualizing the diversity of Kara-Moon Collective ? Just an idea off course...

Keep the ideas coming.....just develop the theme and I'll make the changes.

Really nice - you got talent, there, fella!

Mush mush better, I like it: the background color is a lot better, the text also because the white mirror of the text is closer which improves the readibility. I would place the "in a spin" text in the other part of the circle (where what was) but with the orientation opposite to the first version so you don't have to turn the cd to read it. This will make room to better visualize the "spinning spirals"

And a request: would it be possible to have the colors of the spirals following the pattern of the spinning spirals ?

I really like that design, too. Only thing I'm not sure about is the lettering following the swirl. Could you do one with the lettering just on one line in a smaller font, horizontally and in the bottom 1/3 of the image? I think that will show off better the colours of the swirl while also having a nice contrast between the swirl and the lettering.

Obviously, this is only a test.  For the finished product I could do the same size but double width, folded in two, giving front...back with track listings....and inside with info on artists (possibly).  Also a tray insert with track listings.

Yes very readable and beautiful colours 8)

On the Fonts, I like the 'In a Spin' font much better then the 'Kara-Moon' font. The white behind the Kara Moon is distracting, whereas the white behond the Spin is accenting to me.
 Maybe make them the same font, just different size?...

Off the wall, have you tried doing a negative of the image? That looks awesome, creating a rich organge hue for the background with lots of texture while maintaining the basic image.

Maybe not a bad idea: we could use the negative and the positive, one for the inside of the cd-box and one for the outside, or front and rear. I leave it up to the experts to decide.

I definately like the fonts better now.

The blue seems more calming and sedate
 The negative seems more anxious and raw.

Intersting difference. Can't say I'd choose one over the other...

Yeah, they're both good IMO...
We can use one for the front and the other for the back...

I really love the orange one, but I also like the blue one... it does kind of represent the different forums with the contrast between ambient and more aggressive/up tempo we have here (ok, I'm generalising a bit but bear with me). Maybe we could have a double sided front cover that you could turn around, depending on what you like best?

Also, Offthewall - would you mind posting a version without the fonts? I'd like to experiment a bit with some different fonts on it too and I really like the swirl background.

I'll get back to you later with logo's. I'm still waiting for some feedback of 2 possible sponsors.

However, it would be helpfull if I could show already a blank CD wih the test artwork. Can you make me a test-pdf with the front and rear? My printer can handly CD's so I can print directly on CD's (I can use the blank version for this).

This might help to convince my remaining 2 candidates... (since all bits help :) )

Hi Moon,

I attach a PDF containing a tray liner, a disc print, and a folded front/back.

The text and other items are just to act as place-holders to give a general idea. The folded front/back could be developed as double-sided if you want to include extra information about tracks/artists/kara-moon website, or anything else.

As before.....all is subject to change. Just let me know.

My lady saw the CD cover for the first time and since she is involved  in a lot of spiritual things and stuff like that, she had an important (for here) remark
It seems that the spiral is turning in the wrong way.
Spirals turning to the left represents negative energies, she said

Now, personally, I would say that the spiral is turning to the right, i.e. clockwise from the outside to the centre!  ???

But, if you want to try it the other way it would look like this.

Need to put the titles back where they were, Kara-Moon in upper left and InaSpin in lower right.
 personal opinion..

Also- human eye sees from top left to bottom right normally.Experiments have proven this. This seems to make the original direction look better to me.
 Not arguing about any kind of spirituality,(or cost you any dinners), just going by eye.
This new one appears counter clockwise. Against the grain. My eye goes across the swirl instead of with it.
Putting the titles back where they were may help with that.

As it happens, it really doesn't matter from the design and production point of view.

Some really good ideas floating around here... here's a little thing I did with one of Offthewalls original designs (don't worry, I flipped the spiral! ;)) to suggest an alternative font type and position. I also took the liberty of coming up with a pun on the original cd title which might be fun too.

I like that "Inner Spin" .

My general suggestion would also be to experiment with the colours of the spiral. I do not particularly like the rainbow coloured look. It's too much in the face to my liking. 

I like this background. But it all depends on which colours you use for the background and the spiral. They have to go well together. I would opt for a more adventurous approach in which the background and the spiral blend with each other. I'm no graphic expert so I can't come up with an example of what I mean. Actually Marc already did this a bit now that I had a second look.

I don't know mush about spiritual things, sorry I'm more of a scientist :)

Conclusion: if the spiral is turning clockwise, than it is positive (scientific speaking). I don't know if spirituals turn this up side down though... So my vote: unless Miss P. can do***ent here theorie, the spiral stays clockwise.

And should anybody have doubts, then I suggest to print the spiral on the back of the CD in the opposite direction, so everyone can decide to look and one of the sides of the CD jewel case!  ;)

OK; time to confess colours :)

I like the version of in reply #55  a lot: great background. I do like the different colors in the spiral because it illustrate the different styles of music that you will found on the CD. So I prefer to stick to a mixture of colors although I have to agree that perhaps we need to soften the colors a bit.

Sorry, I really dislike this background colour and pattern. Considering the fonts I have a preference for normal, understated ones (like the ones I used) though this is of course a matter of taste and the one you chose here does look very bright and poppy.
