Title: We're back !!! Post by: Moon on November 13, 2011, 06:03:36 PM Did I have some sleepless nights, but now I'm glad to say that we're back !!!
In fact, we just recovered from a major server breakdown. The server crashed and took out both hard-disk. The server had a mirror raid system, meaning that we could stand a HD failure. Only, this time, both disks were taken out. We tried to recuperate the HD's data for 2 days before giving up on them. A new server was set up and I started to upload my local KM backup. In the 5 years of KM, we have collected a lot of attachement in this forum, so it took me about 48 hours to upload everything. eopphhhhh.... I'm glad to report that 23808 files of the 23809 files were uploaded correctly. Only one file was lost. All post are still there, except for the very last ones just before the server crash. I'm very gald I've invested so much in a peronal local backup backup system. If I hadn't done this... things would have been lost forever. Looks like we're able to surfive the worst of web-distaster one might suffer O0 So, allow me to welcome you to the reanimated KM-forum ! And yes... we're here to stay! Moon Title: Re: We're back !!! We've missed this forum - bigtime. There have been more e-mails flying back and forth between members than I thought possible... Thank you for your efforts. One has to wonder, though, how safe a RAID0 system is ... I've been thinking about setting this up on my own personal computer, but always have felt much safer with a simple external HD solution. Of course, a server is different and probably needs both RAID and external (which I understand that Moon was doing). Anyway, this tech stuff is always a nightmare and I'm glad it was Moon who got to fix things up! Good job and thanks. Title: Re: We're back !!!
