Title: Lament
Post by: bvdp on August 01, 2014, 06:46:23 PM
Made my pilgrimage to music camp again this. Got back yesterday totally bagged from the drive ... but excited about the songs we played, etc. Guess everything in life is a 2 edged sword :)

Anyway, I did play a song, Lament, at our Monday recital and managed a recording on my Zoom H4. I've not done anything to the file other than normalizing the gain. Not sure if there is much I can do to improve it ... suggestions welcome. Just remember, this is a totally live recording done with the Zoom sitting on a seat in the middle of the hall.

EXCELLENT!

I don't think there is anything you can do with this but for a live recording with a small digital recorder this is a really good.

Thanks Mario for the kind words.

I should add that this was recorded in a 500 seat concert hall (in the middle of nowhere!) with wonderful acoustics.

Still, the echo in the recording is annoying to me ... but, like you say, little to be done about it. Guess one could set up a set of close mics or something ... but, that's not going to happen :)

The quality these relatively cheap recorders are capable of is amazing ... especially when you compare it to the cassette tape recorders with the $0.10 handheld microphones I grew up with!

I hear you.  I have a Tascam DR-05 that I use when I am just jamming around on my own or when the guys are here and we are trying new ideas.  They are simply amazing!

Plenty of feeling in the playing, and that's waht counts. Take your point about the echo, but as you say, the result is far better that what could have been achieved as little as 10 years ago.

Yeah ... I was a much shittier player 10 years ago :)
