Title: A nice place to visit
Post by: folderol on September 07, 2014, 05:38:35 PM
The Harrow Inn, is a genuine ancient Pub and Hotel dating back to the 17th century, although parts of it are even older. Close to the Pilgrims Way it was the ideal place for an overnight stay, food & drink and somewhere to get your horses re-shod.

Being well away from the main road it is a perfect quiet location for that restful Sunday lunch.

Guess where I was today :)

P.S.
Yes that is a genuine solid oak floor!

This sounds like a place where I would really enjoy staying overnight.

It's an ideal place. The Inn is privately owned - no big chain or brewery tie-up and is kept spotlessly clean. Food is all home-cooked and as far as possible sourced from local farms. It's actually been one of my regular watering holes for about 3 years. I only just got around to taking a couple of photos ::)

Talking of which, the first one seems to have been eaten by an Internet Grue, so here it is again.

Much better!

That looks like a Franklin stove - designed by a guy from this side of the pond... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franklin_stove

If I were to ever set foot in England...that's the first place I'd hit up!Don't care much for London...as it's such a bleak looking city...but the country cottages are first rate! :D

Been there again today and had a chat with the owner. That stove is apparently quite 'modern' and was installed sometime in the 1930s. Originally there was an open grate set back between the two (now bricked in) ovens.

There is a story that there was an escape tunnel that exited somewhere in the woods for those wishing to avoid the authorities, but the owner has tried to find it with no success.
