Title: The Master of Fantasy
Post by: folderol on March 13, 2015, 04:24:18 PM
I'm a bit surprised nobody has mentioned the passing of Terry Pratchett here.

An excellent writer with a bizarre sense of humour, but deep understanding of people. He got you laughing at yourself without realising it. You see, most of his characters were a merge of all of us.

His master stroke though was the character DEATH - a benign entity doing a necessary job.

If you haven't read any of his books do yourself a favour and start now - only don't read them in a crowded location. Bursts of manic laughter tend to unsettle the rest.

Was not aware of this man...but then...I am not a well read person, having A.D.H.D..Seems like a fascinating fellow(from what I had Googled) and it's a shame that none of his work made it's way into a feature film.

Thanks, Will...
First I've heard of the gentleman, but I enjoy a good read - off to the library, methinks...

Although Colour of Magic is the first in the series, I don't recommend reading it until you have a couple of later books under your belt. This is because Terry hadn't really got into his stride at that point. Almost all of the books stand-alone, but many are also on linked themes.

My favourites are these:

Guards Guards
Hogfather
Lords and Ladies

In France, a lot of people were very sad.

I've read again and again all the books of Sir Pratchett.
When I read these books, my heart is... how to say ? ... is light. Like a cloud. Happy.

Hi Daniel,
Nice to see you here again.
I just had a thought. How well does the humour translate into French?

Oh.
Sorry, I'd not read this post  :-\
It's not easy, I assume.
An author needs a very good translator for these kind of books...
I'd read It was a very difficult work to  translate Piers Anthony, for example (Xanth), an other writer with a lot of of humour.
