Title: New addition
Post by: offthewall on September 24, 2017, 05:51:27 PM
Been on the search again and picked up an Appalachian mountain dulcimer.
When I was in a folk group, back in the early 70's, one of the guys had one which I used to strum on from time to time and I recently got the urge to see if I could still do it.

This song is my first outing with it.
Lyrics from fellow Brit Roger Pankethman.
Everything else is me.
Dulcimer / bouzouki / guitar / acoustic bass / whistle / bodhran / tambourine / vocal.

Nice work. I had a bit of a go on a dulcimer at the New Forest Folk festival this year. Rather strange tuning, but very nice sounding instrument.

Interesting but very simplistic.
3 strings (or courses) tuned to DAD, DGD, or CGC, usually with no's 2 & 3 being drones and 1 being melody. Frets are space diatonically so it plays a straight full note scale with no half-notes.
As they say in the tutorials and related books ..... just keep playing and you can't play a wrong note!
The other oft used description is 'a bagpipe with strings'.
:))
