There's two stories to this song.

The first one being Kylie Minogue's song "Two Hearts" which gave me the itch  to try something similar. However "Ride away" is a bit more upbeat. Now I'm not a fan of Kylie's music at all but sometimes that's irrelevant. Though I must admit she's not like a lot of hyped girlstars that very often can't sing without autotune.
I saw her perform on New Years Eve on the Jools Holland's Show by herself and doing a duet with Paul McCartney. And I had to agree with Paul when he said: "she's awfully good".

The second one being the lyrics that were inspired by the Sean Penn movie "Into the wild". Here's a short description of what that's about.

After graduating from Emory University in Atlanta in 1992, top student and athlete Christopher McCandless abandoned his possessions, gave his entire $24,000 savings account to charity and hitchhiked to Alaska, where he went to live in the wilderness. Four months later, he turned up dead. His diary, letters and two notes found at a remote campsite tell of his desperate effort to survive, apparently stranded by an injury and slowly starving. They also reflect the posturing of a confused young man, raised in affluent Annandale, Va., who selfconsciously adopted a Tolstoyan renunciation of wealth and return to nature.  The mystery of McCandless's death is attributed to logistical blunders and to accidental poisoning from eating toxic seed pods.

And here's the song

I don't know if I'm in part influenced by the story but I think there's a slightly dramatic feeling about this song.
This is a great composition where lyrics and music go together very well. There are catchy vocal lines and fine melodies.
Nice playing and singing.
A flawless piece of work Martin  Cool

Yet another style  Shocked There's just no stopping you Wink

The backing harmony vocals are excellent, as is the guitar tone and and the overall production.

Another rock solid tune, my friend!

Another great tune.  Cheesy

Personally I would eq the main vocals differently.
I'd also love to see a different lead guitar solo. I'm talking about the one starting at around 3:26. I'd try a distorted guitar playing a different melody to give the song another climax. Maybe add some shouts too ("Have to ride away, etc.)...

@Talvin:
The lead vocals have some saturation to make them less smooth than they normally would have been with my natural voice. I personally think it suits the song.
I thought about doing something else at the end of the song but couldn't really come up with something suitable. It's an arranged solo and a very strong one I feel. Grin  So basically I ran out of ideas and left it. Just an other obligatory guitar solo didn't seem the way to go. For me at least.

Sure it's good as it is. It's just what came to my mind when I heard the song.

Martin, just an idea: why don't you fill in the background voices with some other singers. It would "add" something extra to you work...

Euhrrr... off course we need to find some background singers...

Moon

P.S.: I really like your work !

Thanks, Moon. Yeah, you're right of course other singers would give a bit more flavour to the song. It's just for convenience sake I do it all by myself. My wife can't sing and my son's voice just dropped being an adolescent.  Grin
