Our current debian maintainer doesn't have time to continue with our project. If you or someone you know is interested in maintaining the debian package please let us know!!! I don't think this should be too much of a chore and would be appreciated by many potential users.

Thanks, Bob.

Yeah, well ... guess it wasn't clear Smiley Need a package maintainer for MMA. The latest version in the deb archives is 0.12 ... probably over a year old.

Honestly, I have no idea how much work this would be. But, I can't imagine that it's much more than taking a mma distro, putting files in the right place, and putting it up.

Ah I see. I handn't realised there was a specific deb project for this.

Well, I've never even thought about maintaining any packages, but I am a debian user (as well as 64studio which is debian based) so I could have a look and see if it's something I can handle.

Can you point me in the right direction?

Sorry, no pointers from me Smiley

I had a quick look at the debian pages and, to my small brain, it seems complicated to become an official maintainer. I could be wrong, and it might be easy. I am hoping that someone here is already a member of the "anointed" and can add MMA to their duties.

But, I did have a quick look at some docs on how to perpare a deb package. I'll read it again, but it appears that adding an rpm and deb to the distributions should not be hard to do. Let me bang on that for a day and see if it all works. If that does, then I'll just add the deb/rpm to the "official" list of packages on the mma site.

The advantage of having an official deb package is that all those uses of different debian flavors (including ubuntu) can then have easy access to mma. So, it would be nice to be there.

Just to let anyone interested ... the position is still open. In a moment of insanity I thought I'd just add it to my personal list, but I really don't have the time. A new release of MMA should be out by the end of Jan/2008 or mid Feb and it'd be an ideal time to assume this very important role Smiley
