I really like what Clavia did with thier website...very pretty...and very tasty stuff! Grin

I must stay focused on the Ion now though,as if I keep drooling over the Lead 2X..I may have to hold up a bank,or partake in a jewel hiest.. Shocked Cool

Alltough that I'm a big Clavia fan, I must admit that I'm a bit dissapointed with the Wave.
- Only 2 ADSR enveloppes, and no multipoint ADHSR ?
- 2 LFO's but not a word about a routing matrix ?
- 24db filter but no 12db bipole filter ?
- only 1 stereo out ?
- USB but not a word about VSTI integration like the virus ?
- ....

I realy was expecting more .... and it doesn't keep up with what they initialy promissed. I remember the presentation of Clavia when they started the Wave project and there they said it would be the next generation of the Lead. Now it looks more like a stripped down Lead with wave table oscilators.

it looks way to expensive to me for what it offers.

Kara,

It seems to be common-place & a regular practice, for various companies to rush a new product into the market to meet the demands of consumers & yet ironically & ultimately, all the demands for the next best thing are not met.

For this reason,I have not,nor will I ever, buy a product when it first comes out, because there is usually improvements to be made & kinks to work out.

I am also surprised that Clavia has operated in this manner, but you can be sure that the Wave's shortcomings will eventually be worked out,& the price will probably come down at some point.

This is why I love the Nord Lead 2X & the Alesis Ion,because they have been on the market for a while and the improvements have been made-& both of these keyboards are a perfect value for the money.

I have a feeling that Clavia will have no choice but to go back to the drawing board & make the improvements which will probably be unvailed at the next Namm show?

Come to think of it,perhaps Clavia has exceeded thier research & development budget,& that may be why the Wave has come up short in some aspects?

I think it would be wise for everyone that is interested in this board,to sit on it for a while and wait to see how this new product evolves in the future, first.

To be honest, I feel a bit dissapointed too. I was expecting a kind of NordLead 3 with wave function, espacially after being in research for so long and the great thing they had going on with the NL3. I don't know how mush there is to fix... Cry

Well I have a big doubt that there will be a fix for the shortcommings... the Wave is a hardware synth and Clavia made there choises...
It's not that simple to change a hardware synth -> changing schematics, pcb boards,....
Of course it depends on how much is defined by the OS and how much is hardwired in the hardware. Which we don't know. But if you have 4 knobs on your synth to manipulate an ADRS enveloppe, it will be hard to change that to a multipoint ADHSR enveloppe.

Still, and that's only my personnal opinion, at the moment I think that the Wave is a commercial and strategical error of Clavia. I'm a member on the Clavia forum and a lot of users where seeing the upcomming Wave as the next Lead4 with incorporated wave sequencing, and this is clearly not the case.

To be honnest I allso ask myself what's all that hype about wave sequencing, I've been toying with a couple VSTi's that do wave sequencing (I own kubik).
Here is my point of view on it :
1. You use it to modelate real instruments (more or less). In that case you're better of with a good sample rompler.
2. You create weird synthesized sounds with it. Well in that case you're better of with a good synth, since you destroy the original wav sound...

We'll see what the reactions of Clavia customers are.

Well information is slowly been released at the moment....
The most surprising missing feature of the Wave is the use of user samples !
It seems that in the current release import of user sample in the wave sample tables of the wave would not be possible.

This is a a hugh shortcomming IMHO.
There are some contradictory statements on the net wether it will be implemented or not....

And some other news....
Waldorf is planning to release a big competitor for the Wave
The Stromberg and the price would be in the same category as the wave.
Read more about it here : http://www.waldorfmusic.de/en/products/stromberg

Looks very promissing  Cool

Wow...I can't believe what I am reading about the Nord Wave. Shocked

What is equally unbelievable,is what an amazing synth the Waldorf Stromberg seems to be! Very cool stuff. Grin

I just placed an order for my Ion & I'll have it this Thursday. Grin Grin

I will then give up the juicy details as soon as I tinker with it. Cool

I agree, could we have a similar section for software, though? I recently got some new products which I'd really like to review a little and I'm unsure of where to post it.
