Hello everyone

Nice website yall got here. Im an amature composer, since almost a year now and I played metal guitar since I was about 16, though iv never been pro. I'm always looking to exchange ideas and learn from other musicians. Also I am always interested to give my opinion of other peoples music, though I don't want to seem pretentious, especially since I'm a newb.

Btw, I like the samples you have available here and I wanted to use some of them but i'm having trouble getting some to work. I downloaded some percussion WAV files that play fine in winamp but when I load them in my production program they just sound like noise. I look at them in the WAV editor and I see the wave as I would expect it to look except its all below the zero crossing and above the zero crossing there is just noise. Its not all samples though, some work fine. If someone could tell me what thats all about they would surely be a scholar and a gentleman and a fine judge of womens undergraments. Grin

Soldan,

Welcome aboard!

Always room for another guitar player here. Record some of your chops, and post them for us to enjoy.....

I don't know what to tell you about those samples that don't work - I'm just learning myself Cheesy

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

I have to admit I'm kind of embarrassed of my guitar playing. I love playing but I don't consider my chops to be performance worthy. Thats sort of why iv made the transition to focusing on composing with midi sequencers and whatnot. I suppose It wouldn't be a problem for me to upload a few little jams though, provided I can figure out recording. Will I need a program for that or does Vista come with something ? I don't have a mic either but a friend was telling me I can just hook a 3mm stereo audio cable I have to headphones out on my amp and plug that into the mic in on my computer so I'm gonna try it.

As for the samples, They were ones I downloaded here, specifically all the samples from Yppse that i tried and some others, but I could still upload them if you want or maybe upload a screen shot of the wave editor. I know the samples are good though because they play fine in winamp, Im guessing its something about the program I'm using but I cant figure it out and most samples including others I got here are working fine.

Well Im not trying to say the samples are bad, since they play fine in winamp. Its as if they're some kind of advanced wave format not supported by all programs or something. I tried to upload the wav file but it says that format is not allowed so i'm uploading an mp3 recording of what its sounds like played through my software. The file is PearlIMB_14Inch_01 from yPPse's 14Inch toms pack. I'm also uploading a picture of the waveform because I think it may shed some light on the problem.

Hm that's sounds wrong...
I checked it is not the sample, it plays well here.

So it has to be something with your software. The sample is a 32 bit float wav file, could it be that your software has troubles with that ?

I have attached a pic how the sample should look....

Thanks for your help Kara!

You are exactly right. I checked my program specs and as it turns out it only supports up to 16 bit samples. I didnt even know there was such a difference. Anyways I went ahead and converted them all to 16 bit and everything works fine, the sound quality is still good too Cool.
