I've heard of this one. Version one came out about 18 months ago I think (and looked pretty good then).

I have a feeling we are rapidly arriving at a 'tipping point'.

Linux really seems to be the buzz word across most technology fields.

Microsoft is really giving Linux a nice push by releasing such a lame OS.  There will plaenty of converts.  Now to see how the Linux community reacts to influx of new money... that will make or break it.
 There needs to be a bit of development yet in order for the average Joe to be able to use it with confidence.  As it is now you still need quite a bit of geek knowledge to pull off even basic tasks.  The key will be a clever GUI that allows intuitive use without manuals and instructions....and lots more driver support.  The driver support is what will drive everyone away from Vista, but Linux must be waiting with open arms or Mac will win.

I don't exactly agree with this, well say half agree 
The latest big Linux distros are realy equivalent to any win version.
If you take a Ubuntu distro. It fully installs like a win with no more interaction from the user then a win install. It only asks the basic question (which country, which keyboard,...)
Allso included is an automatic update system, equivalent to win.
Installing new applications has allso become very easy to the user with the graphical gui on the package managers, just choose the software you want and click install (no need anymore of apt-get and other command prompt stuff anymore)
Beside if you have the KDE desktop installed, there is very litle difference with a win gui.

Here i do agree.
The probem is that the manufactors still stay with win and don't develop linux drivers, just an economic matter.Which leaves it to the community to develop a linux driver. Since all this is done by volonteers, it takes time...
But this allso gets better. The latest linux distros are fully compatible with USB2.0 compliant devices, just as in win (if they don't need a special driver) they are hot plug and play ! I made the experience with my hardware recorder Roland BR600. It is just as under win reconized as an internal harddrive.
Allso in the latest distros, the general firewire drivers are implemented. This means that general firewire devices no works under linux, example the M-audio Firewire solo.

I do agree that there is a lack of good manuals, not for Linux; there are a ton of good Linux books, but for specific programs. Example is Ardour, there is a good manual online but not available as manual.
But the again, hey it's free, so you invest money or you invest time 

And we have to be honnest, yes win is easy to use as long as everything is working ok, once it goes wrong you have to be sort of a geek to solve the problems....
