By keys do you mean what we on this side of the pond call staffs?

If so I’m going to assume you mean the bass and treble (F and G) staffs.

Correct?

Yeah, I use the ability less and less too.
Need more practice to be as good at it as I used to be, but I can read both clefs at the same time.

I can read the treble/G clef in real time.

I can read the bass/F clef but I read it extremely slow!

I read Music, but I can not play in real Time! I mean that I must learn a Song first reading it again and again and then play it Wink

I can read both, but pretty slowly. It's makes it possible to sit and learn something froma piece of sheet music, but I would fair poorly if I had to try and play something right off the page.

I used to able to read a bit of the bass-key but not anymore and never in real time, just never could understand the rhythm of the notes.

Being only a lead guitar I play by Tab. (numbers) Problem with Tab is timing. It does not show the timing of a note all that well but, I can see the Tab and the sheet music notes at the same time and use the notes for the timing. Why I don’t just use the notes? Beats me. I could save a lot of print out sheets not using the Tab.

My Mom taught me the theory of musical notation, but I never applied it. There is the outside chance that I could read the treble cleff if someone put a gun to my head.... Grin

Not learning to read, is my greatest musical regret.
