This one went a bit outside of my comfort zone.

The whole thing started with the drumpart and a funky riff. I had no idea where it would take me but things soon started to fall into place. The hard part was to get the lyrics to fit into the syncopation.
Steve Miller's song "Fly like an eagle" was a bit of a reference for this song. I do not consider myself to be a very good funky rhythm guitarist but I managed alright, I think.

Martin,

A production that is as smooth as glass....reminds me of Sting, early in his solo career.
Cool

Very nice work,my friend!

Top production as we are used from you  Cool
Doesn't really remind me Sting, he would never play that bass that way   Roll Eyes

The song has a great groove
Only remark I have....
The synth sweep you hear a couple of times, 1:01 - 1:17 is to upfront and distracts from the song, I'm actually not sure it adds something to the song ?

Your music still puts me in mind of Alan Parsons, I think it could be your vocals.

Keep 'em comin'  Grin

Love to do a collab with you sometimes, with your vocals and Lead guitar!

Production well up to your usual standard.

I would say this change of style is a very good thing. It certainly doesn't sound like you were having any difficulties Cool

Thanks a lot guys. Glad you like it

@ Kara. I know you said you're no fan of synth sweeps.  Grin Well maybe you're right. It could well be left out.

@ Folderol  Maybe it doesn't sound that way but I think I would have a hard time recording this song again if it would ever be necessary. I don't think the result would be the same.

 Cool

A great piece, Martin ..... change of style is refreshing.
I agree with Kara about leaving out the synth sweeps (IMO)

Especially love the sections like 1.50 and 3.10 where the bass/rhythm guitar/lead guitar interact with each other.  It really sounds like a band who have been working together for years.  That's not an easy thing to replicate   Shocked

Thanks James.

You're right the interaction between the instruments was essential for the groove, especially in the chorus. Funk is a funny music style where the different instruments sometimes seem to be out of sync with each other. But it is just that which creates a unique groove. Something which you almost do not hear anymore with all the sequencing going on nowadays.

Hi M,

I am absolutely not surprise that you go out of your usual style. I've noticed a slow evolution in your music. Personaly I have always liked your songs that leave your usual style behind. Changing style doenst mean loosing your very own "touch". I guess if ya do some free jazz, everybody here will recognise you anyway  Grin

I have listened again the collab we've done some time ago, you know, the song 'Rendez-vous'. What you made on it was pure jewel  Wink And it was out of your usual style  Afro

thanks!!

Thanks for listening, Mag.

I have used the odd funky rhythm in my songs before but this time a large part of the arrangement is also in concord with that style. Which was something new for me.

I remember Rendez Vous. It had a nice vibe and groove.

Great Groove, love the rhythm guitar part(supa funky). The spoken section is a really nice touch, caught me off guard, and as always superb vocals.
