Not sure if it is just my setup up or what ... but I've found that all the mp3 files on this site need to be downloaded first and then played. For some reason (see below) my browser (firefox) doesn't know that an mp3 file can be streamed.

Interestingly, if I use Opera it gives me a choice of dl or play with an external player.

On my own site (mellowood.ca) I have changed all my links so they include the modified type="audio/mpeg". So, the link now looks like this:

<a href="spirals.mp3" type="audio/mpeg"> <p><Font Size="+2"><b> Spirals </b></font> <i> (Bob van der Poel) </i> </a>

And, like magic, the file opens in a new window and plays. Any chance of doing the same/similar here?

Noooooo Sad

I hate it when things play in line, and it's hard enough to stop it at the best of times without people deliberately forcing the issue.

It gets so bad that the only way I can download from some sites is to discover the url then use wget in a command line to do the fetch Sad Sad

This is something that has been discussed here severall time.
The general preference, which is mine too, was not to stream audio

Just so that we're clear ... I'm not suggesting that songs auto-play. I, too, hate this. What bothers me is that I have to save a song to my HD before I can play it. By adding type=audio/mpeg clicking the song may start a player. And, if you do want to save to HD, then it's easy to right click and save.

Again, this might just be due to my browser being misconfigured. And if that's the case, let me know!

Bob,

I"m using Firefox, and when I"m clicking on a link here I have the choice to play the song or save it  Huh
It is true that when I choose Play it downloads to my temp folder but it starts the player automatically.

I'm starting to think that everyone's browser is different. And that every browser is different as well....

This using linux/ubuntu and clicking on a .mp3 file in this forum:

Firefox - I get a message that this is a .mp3 file. Would I like to save or cancel.

Opera - It starts to download which I click and opens a new window in which a graphic blinker appears and it starts to play (I think this is a vlc plugin)

Chrome - no questions. It just starts to download.

Konqueror - more questions that I want to answer.

I'm sure that in all the about it is configurable. But they all appear to have too many options to try to figure it out. But, when I try my site with the audio=audio/mpeg setting all appear to be okay.

Some days I think I'm fairly smart ... then I spend some time on the web using all these neat programs and I think I'm pretty dumb Smiley
