Any of you guitar guys ever used midi guitar?
Any opinions as to whether this could be a project worth pursuing?

I just picked up this control unit/synth for a song :
http://www.musiciansnews.com/guitars/95/ax100sb_guitar_midi_controller.shtml

It needs a dedicated midi pick-up with 13 pin connection for it to be able to track all six strings, but I have tested it out with the mono input using a standard electric guitar.
Apart from the fact that you can only play 'one note at a time' it does push out some pretty cool sounds.

So, I'm either looking for a real cheep midi pick-up ... or looking to sell this baby on for a huge profit.  Grin

What d'ya think, guys?

 Cool
OK,
So... I run a couple of tests with this rig.
The limitations, using a standard electric guitar, seem to be that you can only track one note at a time and that, where with the full midi pick-up you can 'split' the fretboard into separate trigger areas, this function is not possible.
Next phase is to try out the sequencer and drum patterns (another day Roll Eyes )

My first test goes like this.

COOL! Shocked

Most folks end up using their MIDI guitar as a single note melody instrument, anyway - even when they have that 13 pin thing going on. Many of the players uses a Godin "synth access" guitar, and it sounds great, but no better than what you have demonstrated here.
My feeling: keep the unit, but save yourself some cash and stick with your regular guitar... it's working fine...  Afro

Thanks for your thoughts, Oren.

I think, however, that without the proper pick-up I may as well just stick with keyboard and soft-synths.

'Twill be going to Ebay land, I feel .... unless anyone round here is interested  Roll Eyes

Interesting, but I think I prefer you either 'Real' or properly Synth Tongue
