...just looking for clues...

« on: December 08, 2010, 05:10:50 AM »

In anticipation of the approaching winter soltsice and the shortest day of the year, here is the "bottom end" of a collaboration that I hope will whet our creative appetites.
Attached is bass and drums played around a B minor chord at 90 BPM.
Three of the "breaks" go back and forth from E minor to F#, and the other three breaks go back and forth from G to F#.

Here are the individual tracks in Ogg Vorbis.
Cymbals are on their own track so you can adjust volume and effect them in any old way you please...
Anyone who is a "purest" and wants full-size wave files to work with (ya, you, Thom Grin) I'll send them to you via FTP, or your favourite service.

...and the drums in Ogg Vorbis.
The drums are randomized and slightly "shuffled" to fit the bass line, in case you want to do your own drum track.

Innovative lyrics, and your melody is a perfect compliment to the chord structure. That bit of instrumentation fit's nicely too Cool

Shall we see what other bits are thrown into the pot...?

...hence ... another addition ...

That guitar is sounding like some of those Gibson SG players of the early '70s - Santana, Angus Young, Tony Iommi, and my favourite SG player: Mix Box from Uriah Heep.
Some good tone, there, Pardner...

This is the first thing that came into my mind as I listened to this.  It’s a rhythm guitar part that may or may not fit here.  It’s kind of a dirty Kinks rhythm part.  Do with it anyway you like!

PS – this should line up with you OGG file.

 Shocked
Mario ...
I don't know what Oren thinks (this being his project) ... but, to me that is spot on.
I dropped it into the project and ran it through GreenMachine on 'British Clean' preset ... and it is exactly 'the business' ... in my opinion.
I use GreenMachine almost exclusively now over FreeAmp for the diversity of presets and the low CPU performance.  I was just looking it up, for those who don't know about it, and it is still freely available.

James, first thanx for vote of confidence.  Second thanx for the GreeMachine link.  I had not heard of that one before.  I’ll have to give it a try.

There's quite a surge of activity going on collab-wise...enough to keep me busy for most of the winter,me thinks! Cool

@Oren,

Superb,kick-arse bass action....deal me in,brother! If you would be so kind as to send me just the bass WAV file,that would be outa-sight! Reason being,is that your drum action does not do your bass track justice in my opinion & I really want to ramp up the action & really make it swing! Cool
I don't know when I'll have time to do it...but I'll be on the scene in due time.....

@James & Mario,

Some very gritty & interesting directions you're both going in with your axe work! Afro

Give me a couple of days, gents, to assimilate these tracks, and get a big bass file off to Thom.

Damn, ain't this fun?

Been working with samples and looping of late, and found acapella performances that compliment James' vocal on this one. Here's a bit of roughly mixed audio to give you an idea where it's going...
