When you use 'cut' in PT generally you don't want to use the 'glose gap' function, but rather the 'leave gap' method.  Closing the gap literally makes the time during that section disappear for that track, effectively shortening the track, which may be why it was throwing other tracks out of time.
Use 'close gap' at the end of a track to eliminate time, or at the beginning when mastering to get the song to start right when you hit play, but not in the middle of a song usually..
I'm going to go listen now..

The drums aren't off at all.
Very good job of orchestrating this out Mick. Very cool.
I am really amazed with this. I can see why it was compelling to keep working!
You are working the soundsources about as well as you can, I can see how you want a few different effects from instruments a different spots but without real players you get limited to what you have to work with.
This is a great representation of an orchestra using midi. You done real good.
Thanks for sharing this.

Just might push me into going back and finishing the symphony type project I almost finished a while back..
Excellent work, keep it up.

oops...yes, of course, if you're going to surgically remove a nasty passage from one track (using "cut - close gap"), all the rest of the tracks have to be cut at that point also, so they line up. It's a bit of an artful maneuver, too, cutting at just those points where the notes on either end will join to make a seamless transition. Tricky...

The "cut" function in PT is not working at all!
The audio & midi remains, whether I use close gap or leave gap.
It says that it cut, but nothing happened whatsoever.

This is puzzling.
It happens on 2 different computers, with 2 different versions of the same song.

Let it ride, man. Have a popsicle, do the polka, put your pants on backwards.

Shut the machines off, paint your toenails, relax.

Then re-load PowerTracks. And relax, Max. Cheesy

I got the answer, over at PG, from manning.
I finally got it to cut using the "bars" window.  1 track at a time so far....
I was cutting 57:1:0 to 57:1:240.  The cut function in the bars window, offers to :239.
So far, I don't know if I was over-taxing the system by try to cut too many tracks, or if it was simply the number.

Toenails are already painted, pants are always on backwards!!!  Popsicle sounds good....

Thanks,
Mick

Hi Kara,
Thanks for the compliment.
I've decided to take some time away from this.  It was getting overwhelming.  I was hearing what was in my head, not what was coming out of the monitors!

I'm going to try re-mixing in a couple of days.

I've painted my toenails, bought socks, put my pants on backwards, drank MUCH coffee, smoked a couple hundred packs of cigarettes, thrown donuts at my Synthophone, while running around naked in my studio and had the hair reinserted on my head.

I'm done.

When and IF they legalize polygamy, in the U.S., and I can talk my wife into letting me marry a 25 year old blonde that has a PhD in recording/engineering to remix this...I'm going to let it be.

There are 2 versions.  One mastered with Audacity and one mastered in Power Tracks.
Take your pick.  (Sorry Oren, the triplets stayed, but I toned them down some)

Final tally???
11 audio tracks played on "Eugene The Magical Synthophone", merged to 6.
40 midi tracks recorded on my keyboard & turned into 24 audio tracks.

Thanks to everyone here, (especially rharv & Oren) & some of the folks at PG forum.
Thank y'all, very much, for your support.

I couldn't upload both.
Here's the one done with Audacity.

Mick,

You did a nice job of wrangling this beauty! Those triplets now come across as a welcome change of pace. I'm impressed!

The Audacity production takes it, over-all. Punchy bottom end; transparent orchestral highs. Very alive. Thanks for the two versions! I have a good feeling about open-source software...you have reinforced that.

Hats off, Mr. E.  Cool
