ChordPro version 6 is released.

ChordPro is a tool that produces nicely formatted lead sheets (lyrics and chords) from text files that contain the lyrics and chords and some additional instructions. It is a bit similar to MMA, producing something nice and useful from simple text input. And, also like MMA, it is free software.

Version 6 is the result of a long period of development and testing and contains a plethora of new features. Read all about it in the release notes.

What has this to do with MMA, you may ask. Well, ChordPro can also generate simple MMA skeletons from ChordPro 'grid' sections. For example, the following grid section

Code:
{start_of_grid}
|| Am . . . | C . . . | D  . . . | F  . . . |
|  Am . . . | C . . . | E  . . . | E  . . . |
|  Am . . . | C . . . | D  . . . | F  . . . |
|  Am . . . | E . . . | Am . . . | Am . . . ||
{end_of_grid}

may look like this in ChordPro,

and generate the following MMA:

Code:
// title: Grid Example

Time   4/4
Groove Neutral44
Tempo  60

/**** End of Preamble ****/

//   5 Start of grid
//   6 || Am . . . | C . . . | D . . . | F . . . |
  1  Am
  2  C
  3  D
  4  F
//   7 | Am . . . | C . . . | E . . . | E . . . |
  5  Am
  6  C
  7  E * 2
//   8 | Am . . . | C . . . | D . . . | F . . . |
  9  Am
 10  C
 11  D
 12  F
//   9 | Am . . . | E . . . | Am . . . | Am . . . ||
 13  Am
 14  E
 15  Am * 2
//  End of grid

You can get ChordPro from Github.

This will be a really tool for singer/songwriters and folk into folk-style music. Thanks for sharing the update! And for incorporating MMA into the program.

One question for my little brain: What are "grids"? Same as what I refer to as "progressions"?

Best,

The 'grids' are patterened after the Jazz Grilles. With one box per bar (or beat) it gives a quick view of the song structure.

Ahhhahh. Got it. Funny I didn't see that since I try to do my lead sheets 4 measures per line where practical (depending on the song structure of course). Looks good.
