Remember the guys from the "Blue Note"? They're back! Doing God Bless The Child. I started with a BIAB file, and tweaked it. I just love the 11 chord BS&T used, & added more of my own. I put in some vibes, Harmon Mute Trumpet, 2 Altos, 2 Tenors & a Bari. Comments (as always) are appreciated... (but not necessary) I tried uploading @192 & the file was too large. I also tried @ 128. & it wasn't allowed. It's on my website, if anyone would like to listen. http://www.mickemery.com(bottom of music page) Thanks, Mick

Hi Mick Nice to have another song from you here. Remember the max. upload size for a song here is 8MB, that's propably the reason it wasn't accepted. Anyway, this is a direct link to your song : http://mickemery.com/mickemery/mp3s/God%20Bless%20The%20Child.mp3About the song, very laid back, I like a lot the style of it. Only comment I could make, the comping rhodes in it doesn't realy fit to my taste. A combination of the used style with a piano from another would perhaps work better for this song. And as usual I love your playing, I'm a fan k Remember the guys from the "Blue Note"? They're back! Doing God Bless The Child. I started with a BIAB file, and tweaked it. Hi Kara, Thanks for taking the time to listen & respond. (also downloading/uploading) The first @192 was 9 MB, but I converted to 128 @ 6MB it still wouldn't upload.

Hello Mick, Nice to have you back & listening to your tune was the icing on the cake of my day...very calming...why do I always crave a beer whenever I hear jazz or lounge music? Hmm..very peculiar. Cheers, Thom

Mick,
Premium work, as I've come to expect from you. No indication that it was anything but a group of seasoned players, laying it down.
Always a pleasure, fella!
Oren.

Your part was done very well, Mick. But I gotta agree with kara; the keys are a little stiff for the rest of the band. Too basic of comping. I like the way you arrange the sax sections, the little bari lines thrown in..very nice Mick.

This strikes me as ideal smooth background. All the instruments seem to fit together well. I didn't have a problem with the rhodes.

Very nice rendition of this song Tasteful arrangement. Have to agree with Kara on the Rhodes though. It spoils the feel of the song. If you want to keep it.I would definitely pan it right or left. And cut the mud from it. So in other words eq it by cutting the low fequenties. That way it will sound lighter and more befitting the song. Once you have panned and eqed the Rhodes there's room for the bass to be placed straight in the middle.

Thanks to all who listened and commented. As always, it is greatly appreciated. Someone at another forum offered to put B3 and/or piano on it for me. (nothing beats a live musician!) When/if it comes about...I'll re-post. If anyone in this forum ever wants to try a track on one of the tunes on site, they're quite welcome to. www.mickemery.com Not saying it would be used, but it would be nice to try. (personal taste etc.) I believe it should be done by PM. I can email a file minus whatever you would like to add. You could then send back & I could remix. Thanks again, Mick

This has a great atmospheric sound - especially the muted trumpet - although the bass and piano struck me as a little bit stiff. For me the tune might have worked better at a shorter length - perhaps 4-5 minutes - as, although the leads were confident and professional, they didn't strike me as compelling enough to sustain interest for the full length of the track. (But that might just be my short attention span )

I just uploaded two different masters of GBTC. Bob Crickmore (Jazzmammal) is playing EXCELLENT piano & organ on these. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I just hope I did his playing justice in the mix. Once again...at the bottom of the music page. http://www.mickemery.comMick

The new version is SO much better. Sounds real now, beleiveable. I think I'd bring Bob's piano playing up a bit in the mix..sounds like I'm next to the horn section and the piano is on the other side of the room here. I'm listening on small computer speakers this morning, but I don't think that's what's doing it.
Very nice job on it Mick.

Hi, Yummi! Some smooth and cool jazz bits!! I enjoyed the listen. Great brass arrangement. I think also that the bass and the drums could be a tadd more living, be less "mechanical". But anyway, thanks for sharing bye mag
